EHLERS-DANLOS SYNDROME
Ehlers-Danlos syndrome is a group of inherited connective tissue disorders that cause joint hypermobility, skin hyperextensibility, and tissue fragility. Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS) is a genetic condition affecting connective tissues, which provide strength and elasticity to skin, joints, blood vessels, and organs. The disorder results from mutations in genes responsible for producing collagen or related proteins, leading to weakened connective tissue. EDS can be inherited in autosomal dominant or recessive patterns, or arise from de novo mutations, Diagnosis is primarily clinical, based on symptoms and family history. Genetic testing can confirm most types except hEDS, for which no specific genetic marker has been identified. Misdiagnosis is possible, sometimes being confused with chronic fatigue syndrome, depression, or somatic symptom disorders. There is no cure for EDS; treatment focuses on symptom management and complication prevention, which is difficult to do when EDS is NOT taught in medical schools ACROSS THE GLOBE!
